Better late than never, heres some love for the Midwest and the left coast itself -
OHSUC Tournament
Minnesota State Championship - Open division | Girls' Division
A little preview, c/o commentor Jake....
Top seeds from MN State open tourney are:
1. hopkins
2. cathedral (beat hopkins 4 weeks ago, lost two days ago)
3. Cretin Durham hall
4. Eden Prarie
a total of 23 teams from minnesota are playing, and the competition will be great.
if i had to choose a dark horse, my bet is Bemidji. i saw them last year: only one of them had cleats, most were barefoot, and they came to play. i don't even think the college up there (bemidji state) has an ultimate team, but i think they were in the quarterfinals last year. they are the only non-metro team outside of Cathedral (St. Cloud) so they are relatively unknown.

If you've got results post them as comments, looking forward to hearing how things turn out...

Yeah... so bemidji, whom i was hyping in the last post didn't show up. bummer.
i don't think there were any upsets today on the boy's side.
ooh! hopkins girls (seeded 2 after Cretin Durham Hall) came from 4-9 to win 10-9 at the cap. amazing run ladies. keep it up!
all the top teams held seed except for Mounds View.
They also had to juggle the brackets a little because Bemidji and Blake were no shows.
matchups tomorrow, if I can remember correctly, in the championship bracket:
Hopkins v Como Park
Armstrong v Sibley
Cretin-Durham Hall v Eden Prairie
Cathedral v South
Armstrong was second in their pool, behind Eden Prarie, they beat their seed to come out on top of their pool. While only giving up eight points on the day.
As an Armstrong Player, thought i would point that out
Hopkins over Cathedral 15-7 for the State title.
15-6 i believe actually....
OHSUC? What happened up in Oregon? I had my money all over Serious George.
Final Standings:
1. Castro Valley Red Hand (& 2 Seattle Girls)
2. Crescent Valley Tribe
Tied for 3rd: South/Sheldon
Spirit Award: Serious George
A dissapointing tournament for nearly everyone and hopefully the last time we ever try something as big as OHSUC should be on a weekend when people are taking the SATs or gearing up for graduation...
Biggest moment at the tournament:
5th round on Saturday when Serious George, the middle school allstar team from Eugene, played their friends at Churchill HS in a nailbitter eventually went to Serious 12-10. The game was huge and meant they should have gained a second seed on the opposite pool for Sunday, but fate and a few HS coaches decided otherwise and threw them to the wolves (aka South Eugene) first round... I'll have more to say on this at some point, but I haven't even finished my thoughts on Westerns and our dissapointing experience there.
