The Junior National Team Application were due TODAY. If for some reason you're reading this and it is before midnight, you still have a chance, albeit slim, to get your application in.
Who do you know has applied?
With more than 250 players looking to attend, how many will be selected to come try-out in either Seattle on March 8/9 or Atlanta on March 22/23?
How much will the decision be based on the scouting that was done back in Blaine, MN at the 2007 Youth Club Championships?
Will the same number of post-HS players falling in the U-19 category still be picked (6 I believe two years ago)?

USAaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,
USAaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
I'm going to Worlds,
with a full head of steam.
Yea, USA Team.
It is rather unfortunate that the two tryout dates are during two of the Collegiate Championship Series (CCS), the Stanford Invite (Mar 8-9) and Centex (Mar 22-23). Any college freshman going to these events is not able to tryout.
does anybody know how many are invited to each try out camp?
40
where did you get that number alex?
http://www.upa.org/juniors/wjuc2008/info
It's the same as last year anyway.
when do they let you know about what camp you're going to?
Do I have to hold your hand? I didn't know high school education had fallen so far.
From the link that I just posted, had you bothered to read it:
January 10th APPLICATION & RECOMMENDATION DUE DATE!
January 31st Top applicants invited to try-out camps (up to 40 for each try-out camp)
February 10th Players invited to try-out camp must confirm attendance
who are the top applicants gunning for the spots?
I know that I personally filled out 17 recommendations from players in Eugene and there are at least a couple who asked others to recommend them...
What I find interesting is how many post-HS players they'll be taking this year.
I'd have to imagine that having that many players with a recommendation from the same person can only be a bad thing for them. I'm sure you all wrote them great recommendations, but either you made certain players look better (in which case, with 17 recommendations by the same guy, why take the guys that got a lesser reference letter) or you wrote roughly the same thing for everyone, basically nullifying the advantage of good recommendation letter.
SOOOOOO AGREE PWNED
is competition going to be stiffer on the east coast or west coast?
to alex:
you could be write about the reference letters I wrote, but there also could be a positive side to having me. i do not want to toot my own horn, but I believe I have shown myself to be one of the more involved individuals in the growth of youth ultimate in the NW and in particular Oregon. For that reason, my opinion could carry more weight than someone else who maybe isn't as well know.
The UPA has seen me take players to the highest level of competition including both Westerns and YCC. Every player requesting a reference from me was at either or both of those and thus my opinion of their performance might be both the best for them and most informed.
You also forgot to mention the other side of option 1. If he made some look better than others, then the ones at the top are going to have an advantage. A recommendation ranking someone 1 of 17 has more weight another ranking someone 1 of 3. So it might actually be a good thing for some of them.
He also coaches girls as well as boys, so I doubt that all 17 letters were for guys.
As one of the 17, so far from what I have heard most people have gotten invites (including me). And I think over half of the 17 were for girls, maybe 11-6?
