Churchill HS Mixed OHSUC HL Video

Hate us or love us, we put out a lot of highlight videos during the ultimate seasons. Our last ones just got completed.

As a bit of a preview, the two highlight videos going online are from OHSUC (Oregon High School Ultimate Championship), our mixed division state tournament on May 28/29. This year Churchill attended with 3 teams (Varsity, JV, and our beloved Freshmen). Also at the tournament was EMU (Eugene Middleschool Ultimate), who was also filmed (since I still had not returned the second HD camera we got for Westerns, which was how we were able to get HD footage of both our Open & Girls teams).
Anyways, back to OHSUC that happened the weekend right after Westerns. OHSUC was a bit of a different tournament than the highly competitive and serious nature of the weekend before. And as such, we took the tournament a bit less serious, especially our varsity team comprised of seniors who nearly spent more time recording inbetween footage than actual game play... The second video brings together footage from both the JV and Freshmen teams.

sick video. Really awsome. Way to end it on a bad note with a guy mooning the camera though.

those freshman are hyped way too much when they arn't very good. all those layouts were cool but many were because of crappy throws. im not saying they arn't going to be good but they arn't all they have been cracked up to be.

you show us your freshman, cause we've shown you ours. and as far as the west is concerned, Churchill seemed to have some of the best youngest talent around with the limited tournaments provided for such comparisons. Maybe not the best, but by sure some of the greatest.

that's a pretty big clause there luke. churchill certainly has some good freshmen, one in particular who is really sick, but most schools don't send freshmen teams to tournaments. good, sure, but you haven't seen the rest, westcoast or otherwise.

We are a good freshman team, not to say some of our throws were bad. But we work together, and we do well. Theres no one to say that we don't have talent, especially if you've seen both of our videos. Sorry, but i can't agree with you on that one.

and continuing on with that, it might not be extreme talent, but raw talent. Something that our team can use to get so much better.

a highlight video doesnt prove anything about the skill level of a team.... the freshmen got killed by JV in the regular season. But JVs highlights are pathetic.

In regards to a few of the comments above directed towards me:

I believe that Churchill had more than one freshman who is really sick, but that is my highly bias opinion. There was no one player who carried the team, something that I love about ultimate and we continue to try and model. That said, the highlights often focus on what those on our team and others find 'highlight' worthy, which is typically: skies, bids, d's, and great plays. And those who are good at those particular things were shown a bit more than others.

It is also true that very few schools support programs that include a freshman mixed team. This coming 07/08 season Churchill will have lost 12 senior boys and 3 senior females. We will not be supporting a freshman team as we only have a handful of incoming players from our local middle schools. It is somewhat up in the air how many students we will retain and how many mixed teams we will field at the various tournaments we have attended in teh past.
It should be noted that we are also fully transitioned into an Open & Girls program that will occasionally play mixed for fun. (In other words, we will no longer be a mixed program that ends its' season playing open/girls)

In regards to what highlight videos prove. Here are my thoughts on what HL videos prove:
1) That your program has the ability/willingness to film itself
2) That your program wants to share what it is up to with the world
3) That there are aspects of Ultimate that are attractive and exciting to watch (for both those who play and especially for those who don't).
4) That your program has some respect of itself and what it spends so much of its' time doing

What a HL video doesn't prove:
1) How good a team is. (the video is too short and only shows the positives)
2) That any one players is better than another
3) Something else profound that I've forgotten.

someone tell freshie to stop posting.

Look, I will stop posting, and i just wanted to correct myself. I didn't mean to say that all the highlight shows is our talent and how good we are. what i meant to say was, we have good players, we play well together. We might now play well against others, but again, we do well with eachother, and i think, through all of our stuff, thats what makes us a good team.
that might not make sense, but oh well.

ok well our freshman team is good. for being freshmen. we didnt lose that bad to our jv team. not to mention we took them to universe point at ohsuc. also we have many players who have played/do play varsity...and churchill isnt that bad. 3rd in opens and 1st in womens at westerns. also we just beat a HS canadian nation team...(youth club).

p.s. saying most of our bids were off bad throws was a dumb statement because all bids are off bad throw...
