Eastern rankings are going to be very tough. There has been a lot of we beat x, but lost to y, but then y beat x going on. Needless this is all moot before we see some of the scores from Amherst this weekend. Going into the weekend I believe the following:
North Hills
Amherst
Pennsbury
Needham
YHB
Nashville
Lexington
Columbia
Princeton
Who knows...

YHB has not played any tough teams besides Pennsbury (but it is the only team they've lost to), and North Hills beat Amherst twice. Amherst cannot go in ahead of North Hills. Similiar situation with Amherst and Pennsbury. Needham did beat Amherst, but their scores against to non-Eastern teams are VERY close.

Columbia has a HUGE chance to jump into the top 6 with a GREAT performance this weekend. Careful of that Nunez, he's crafty.

After this weekend we can get a better view on who-is-seeded-where. Most of these teams have not played each other in fall, so i think the top three Pennsbury, then North Hills or 'Herst. There could be some major upsets this weekend.

Anybody got final results from Amherst Invite??

Great performance by chs? Didn't they lose to amherst after having a lead? Also they beat needham in a game that only made them drop seed at amherst. They lost to North Hills at paideia cup, they lost to amherst, they pulled of a barely win but placed lower then Needham, and they lost to Grass burn. They should be 7 or 8 at easterns at best. Nunez is not crafty, he needs to get his team winning sooner.

1) North Hills (did not see pensbury but did place higher at Paideia cup)

2) Pennsbury (took 4th at paideia cup but beat Amherst at AI)

3) Amherst (lost to needham twice but has higher placement in other tournaments)

4) Needham (beat Amherst did not see penns, placed top 4 at AI)

5) Brutal Grassburn ( took 5th at paideia cup and gave teams some runs)

6) YHB (2nd place at two major tourneys placing higher then LC bird and Princeton)

7) Princeton (has not seen chs but got to the semis of YHB and have been playing well in the last tournaments)

8) Columbia ( has a big win against Needham, but thats it all the other teams have placed higher at several tournaments and lost badly to pennsbury in the fall)

Paideia over Pennsbury in the finals I think 17-6 or something to that extent. Amherst beat Needham in the 3rd place game.

Anonymous said...

where's paideia at easterns? they seem like one of the top teams on the east coast.

Anonymous said...

Paideia cannot go to easterns, their school only allows one out of state trip per year, and they just went to Amherst Invite...

Anonymous said...

Paideia owns everyone. No one has hit double digits against them. They own colleges too. Only Georgia Tech has beat them...no other college has hit double digits against them other than that loss. But for some reason they never go to Easterns.

Anonymous said...

Easterns conflicts with Paideia graduation - otherwise they would be there.

Anonymous said...

Anyone know anything about the B-division in which another easterns team was in(Northfield Mt. Hermon)?

Anonymous said...

NMH won, thats all i know

Anonymous said...

Princeton should not be ranked over Columbia, Columbia is a far better team.

Paideia is nasty. Although the Pennsbury vs Paideia games were a little bit closer then the scores.
North Hills lost to Pennsbury by about seven in the fall and Pennsbury came second in the AI. They outplayed Amherst in two of the three games theyve played, and only won one. But they did it when it counted

1) Pennsbury
2) Needham
3) Amherst
4) Columbia

Anonymous said...

Pennsbury is skipping the biggest prom in the country to go to Easterns

Anonymous said...

CHS comes out flat alot, they dont kick into gear until late in games, or they used to. Thats why they lost ot Unvi. Nashville and North Hills. Not that im downing those teams but they sometimes dont play their full pontential.

Anonymous said...

Paideia cup was CHSs first tournament. It is real hard to judge how they will be at the end of may with they up and down performances. No one can deny that CHS should be in the 7 or 8 spot at the highest.

1) Pennsbury
2) North hills
3) Amherst
4) Needham
5) Uni school of Nash
6)YHB

Anonymous said...

Actually CHS should be in the top 5, above YHB and Uni School and maybe Needham. They've only lost to Pennsbury (in the fall), North Hills, Uni School, Paideia, and Amherst. In addition to beating Needham at Amherst, they achieved better scores against every other team in their pool than Needham did. I agree that they're inconsistent.

Anonymous said...

"they achieved better scores against every other team in their pool than Needham did"

needham beat amherst, columbia didnt...far from it, in fact

Anonymous said...

But needham was beat by amherst 15-7 in the later third place game. I should have said that columbia has achieved better scores against every other team.

Anonymous said...

canes
penns
north hills
columbia
needham

columbia and the canes beat needham at AI

Anonymous said...

have you ever played a third place game? the players are morally gone and physically exhausted. plus, many of the teams players left before the final game for various reasons.

Anonymous said...

excuses. excuses. excuses.

i would never just give up an opportunity to play the games. even if it's a third place game. that's experience you just can't get elsewhere. not at practice.

Anonymous said...

I just wanted to say, because all this attention is going to the boys division of the AI the best game of the tourney came from somewhere else.

Paideia Girls vs Amherst Girls

It ended in a 15-13 victory for the Canes, and was one of the most impressive games of Ultimate I have ever seen. I know this is the "Easterns Boys Division" thread but I wanted to give some props to the girls who played in that game, awesome. Unfortunately the Boy's division couldn't give as good of a championship game.

i hear that needham was missing several players in their 2nd amherst game, including one of their handlers

and also , there is very much truth in that games for 3rd place dont mean much of anything becuase not only are players tired from 2 days ofplaying, but they've just been ousted from a chance at 1st, which is a huge lowering of morale..

Anonymous said...

needham was missing one of their top handlers, their top deep, and a big defensive player, as well as injuries to other key players, but the canes played an excellent game and won

Anonymous said...

Pennsbury can and will chump North Hills. End of story. North Hills is a great team, but dosn't have the size or athleticism to run with Pennsbury

Anonymous said...

a bit cocky eh pennsbury?

Anonymous said...

disagree. We saw North Hills at the Tidewater Tuneup and they seemed overrated then. And yes, they lost to Pennsbury...then. This is not the same North Hills team, though. They have definitely proved they can hang around in the top 10 in the country. North Hills is 1-0 against Amherst while it took Pennsbury 3 games to beat Amherst. North Hills also killed Montour while Pennsbury had some trouble with them. I'm not saying Pennsbury can't beat North Hills, but they definitely won't chump them. They'll win by 3 at the most. North Hills has proven that their size doesn't matter.

North Hills is a great team, and It will be a great game. Without a doubt there wont be any chumping, I am confident in my team, but we are all very aware North Hills can play, no one needs to remind us that they beat Amherst, we know, we're ready. Lets just all stop before this gets out of control.

someone please fill out the other few scores on the RRI tournament page of AI. i want to know the scores for pool B and to know if all the other scores are right

and the B division and girls division? no scores posted at all on the RRI page? whats up with that

Anonymous said...

Regardless of what players needham had or didnt have, one team isnt based on a couple of players. They still playd, they still lost. saying they lost because they were morally beaten, and didnt have starters is a weak excuse

Anonymous said...

what ever happen to Wissahickon? they've only played 2 or 3 reported games (one is a forfeit) and apparently aren't going to any tournaments, including the PA state tournament. weren't they a good team last year?

Fantusta said...

Wissahickon's 3 best players last year graduated, and when your team only has about 8 players, that's a pretty big blow. Most years they've been able to bounce back from that, but this year it seemed to finally catch up to them.

And yeah, Mike Plunkett is hella lazy.

Anonymous said...

K yea thanks for calling me out Chris. I would not classify myself as lazy but I suppose that is your own opinion of me personally I don’t even see how what I do or Wissahickon is involved with is even relevant to this topic of easterns and or why you would possibly call me out. Furthermore I’m not exactly sure how you are in any position to speak on that issue considering the only contact I have personally had with you was 9 months ago but thanks for your input. I am almost upset that I have to defend myself in a blog but then I suppose the playing field trump all which ultimately satisfies me.

and why arent you on rec.sport.disc?

As we all know, without referees, Ultimate is a sport based on the spirit of the game and respect for the game itself as well as your opponents and the greater ultimate community. Unfortunately two persons affiliated with Pennsbury have recently violated that respect and trust. Following game-play on Sunday at the Paideia Cup, a Paideia Gruel hooded sweatshirt and Amherst Hurricanes warm-up jacket were taken by the aforementioned persons. Obviously, this was a lapse in judgment on their part and much to the disgust of the rest of the team. With as much hospitality, class and respect that we were shown at the Paideia Cup, it truly makes me ashamed to have had a teammate and friend show so little in return. The items are currently being returned and we are deeply sorry to the owners of the apparel and everyone else who attended the tournament. Thanks to Tiina Booth, Kyle Weisbrod, and Michael Baccarini for being so understanding about the situation.
Sincerely,

Anybody know anything about the lexington catholic team?

Anonymous said...

Needham has no chance in the finals, i would put them in the semi's if their LUCKY. 'Herst and Pennsbury are far better. There havent been enough matchups between North Hills and others but i would rank them over Needam

Anonymous said...

i would say Pensburry is gonna win Easterns this year. This does not make them the best team in the East though. Paidea is by far, the best team.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the UPA will move Easterns a week up or back next year so that Paideia can participate. From what I hear Easterns has been on their graduation for the last 3 or 4 years. Maybe the UPA will flop the Easterns and Westerns date for next year... anyone know the policy on how they set dates?

Unknown said...

They've been swapping Easterns and Westerns dates ever since the beginning.

Anonymous said...

No, but they were flopped last year and Paideia still didn't attend

Anonymous said...

i think which ever team wins the highlight reel contest will win easterns. yea, editing skills win ultimate games.

ps. that highlight reel contest is just the beginning of the end of civilization. civility just died.
