MS State Tournament: Oregon - FINAL

The first ever MS State Mixed tournament in Oregon took place this weekend. Kennedy came out on top 12-7 against Roosevelt in the A game, while the KMS B squad stunned the B squad of RMS in a 9-0 game. Congradulations to both teams for great seasons.

this is very very cool

i know there are efforts in other parts of the country to start teams in middle schools - Wissahickon in Philly i believe was attempting something like this? the amherst area is pretty developed if im not mistaken? pittsburgh is making efforts as well i think.

brings a smile to your face when you see kids playing.

i remember teaching my younger brothers (all 5 of them) the game for the first time, and watching them come out to games, and you can see in their eyes that they want to play.

and i mean, who wouldnt, its a great game.

all ive got to say is... future alex nord?

id be interested to hear what efforts are being made around the country to spread the game to kids younger than high school.

Matt,
I will share your praise and comparison to Alex Nord to Amar, 8th grader at KMS... the photos are very similar and next time he asks to borrow I Bleed Black, i'll make sure he takes notes from the game where this happened.

I know that in the Seattle area they have many middle schools playing ultimate. They had a good representation at Spring Reign, lots of talent.

Right now Im coaching a middle school team and a 5th grade team. The 5th graders are 2-1 in the season, its fun to see.

There is also another program going on in seattle for elementary school kids...its awesome!

32 coed teams in 4 divisions in the DiscNW Seattle Spring MS League. It's a mix of public and private schools.

Feeder programs make a big difference. If you want to help your program and build the sport, start MS teams at the schools that feed your school. Plus coaching middle school is a ton of fun.

The coolest thing in Seattle is the Seattle Public Schools MS league, which may be the only ultimate league in the country that is sanctioned and financially supported by an urban public school district.
