all the spiking and celebration is great.. really shows the difference between west coast and east coast. East coast semis and finals there was absolutly no disc spiking. Difference between west caost and east coast.. east respects the disc a whole shit load more. Amherst beats hopkins 15-8

so your argument, just to be clear, is that the spiking (which South Eugene is known for), lowers their level of play and thus the entire level of play for all teams on the west coast? if this correctly states your argument, I fear that you will have many who may disagree.

As for the Amherst/Hopkins game that is referenced, can you be more specific? was this at a UPA event? was this game being played for a championship title? I ask these questions because there is a huge difference in play for teams when the event being played at is a series event (ie: Westerns/Easterns for HS teams, College Series for College teams, Club Series for club teams). It doesn't matter how big the tournament is that took place before the series, because it is the series that matters. A pre-season or intra-season game does not equate as apples to apples to a game that is played during the series, let alone a finals in that series.

All this said, I would like to see the finals of Easterns and see if I would agree with the above commenters opinion. There is a possibility that he or she is correct and this year the talent level and game play on one of the coasts is noticeably better, but I am trusting that history has shown comparing finalists objectively between Westerns and Easterns is impossible. There is talent on both coasts and arguments on which is better is much like two brothers in the same family beating each other up. It is a waste of time that we could spend working on making both sides better.

keep post anonymously. at least we all know one thing, east coast might now spike ( which is false) but at least west coast has balls. i have ran into plenty of east coast kids who spike. it doesnt make a difference what coast you from. south does it a lot cause honestly its not that big of a deal. and last i checked, most of the west coast teams didnt have issues with one and another and the upper level east coast teams are hated by their peers.

also, if your ganna hate, hate on south not the whole west coast. just like i dont plan on hating the whole east coast, just people like you who hide behind four letters and say amherst will beat whoever without proving anything.

Any player on the east coast should ask either Michael Baccarini, or Anthony Nunez who would win... Anthony told us and the Pennsbury players we were better, but that is strictly his opinion. We would have loved to play them at Born to Dive, but we couldnt afford that and Paidea. I hope that the bums who talk smack on this site will start leaving their names, but if your to embarrassed to man up, then your not even worth raggin on. I know that I speak for Hopkins when I say we spiked not in bad spirit, but to raise the intensity level of our own team, and allowed us to play at the most intense level.

Luke, incredible job yet again on a highlight video.

Dylan get your team to go to an east coast tourney and womp on them like we did this year.

Thanks for some great games SEHS, it was a blast

asa, you the man. and its true whenever i spike it (usually) is not to be mean to any other team and when somebody thinks we are and respectively asks us to stop...we do. just happened that hopkins and south played each other twice and neither of us really cared...

haha it's been a while since there's been a thread like this. keep up the good work, dylan and asa.
We'll see which coast is better at YCC's. Isn't that what its for? My guess is Seattle's reign ends this year. And for the record, top eastern teams have no problem with each other.
"Dylan get your team to go to an east coast tourney and womp on them like we did this year. "

HAHAH.

pennsbury and amherst weren't there good display of talent when they top two finishers on the east weren't there. Pennsbury and amherst both roll any west coast team...

wait for yccs boys
Why did that kid throw his crutch?
he threw his crutch because we were losing and his man was deep and he obviously wasnt ganna catch up. and we said sorry to hopkins and they won either way...on the west coast we learn to forgive and forget... and ycc isnt for seeing who is better...its to grow youth ultimate. but thats cool all you hot headed east coast kids gotta get hyped on playultimate. and i never said the top east teams didnt like each other i said the lower seeds didnt like the top seeds...which ive heard from many many sources.

east coast teams give out beatings.
I swore I'd never post on this website again..but, hold up.

Look, anyone from anywhere can come on this site and flex their muscles with some minor trash talking and quoting coaches from the opposite coast, but take it easy. You're gonna come on here and say Anthony Nunez said you were better then PHS and ARHS? Nunez is one of the most successful coaches around..but I'm guessing he said this at or soon after P-Cup, long before either Amherst or Pennsbury peaked. Obviously, no one can come on here and say who is better, and anyone who has been playing at the top-level of youth ulti for any amount of time knows that this argument comes up every year..and every year it ends the same way..poorly, and kids looking very ignorant and arrogant .. I personally can't wait for the matchup at YCCs, although I know Robbie told me MN isn't sending an open team (a bummer only becuase they are the Westerns champs, nothing against Seattle, I know you guys are gonna bring it).

As for YCC's, it is DEFINITELY a time to prove the best ultimate community at the youth level in the country. You can definitely not say it is strictly to grow youth ultimate, I understand it encourages leagues to grow and be born in cities all over the country, but there is more pride that goes into YCCs then almost any other tournament.

Spiking - the only reason some people from the East coast look down on spiking is because we have been bred that way. There are very large figures of authority, and coaching positions, on this side who are advocates for keeping spiking out of youth ultimate. As a beloved supporter of spiking, I can honestly say that I have seen the harsh repercussions of it being present in youth ultimate - mainly young players feeling the need to act all big and tough after someone drops the disc in front of them. Either way, spiking or no spiking, the teams on the East coast have plenty of "balls."

Us being hated? Chill. I'm sure I can find plenty of the bottom of the best teams over on the West Coast who have beef with teams who have had more success then them. Teams hate other teams over dumb stuff, and it happens everywhere. People have been talking on this blog about how "everyone hates Pennsbury" for years..yet, some how, I seem to have some of the strongest relationships with local and far away teams up and down the East coast, and I am the captain of that hated Pennsbury evil empire. High School ultimate, you've been fun, but after YCCs, its over..let it go guys. East and West coast powerhouses are only going to grow further and further apart as we move from Natties, to Easterns and Westerns, to Regionals, to Sectionals, to States. Just take a deep breath.

well said isaac. i mean dont think that the west coast wasnt "bred" like that either. most west coast teams are coached like that as well. its just hard for me when i hear coaches saying dont spike it when i see those same coaches spiking it when they go play for whoever they play for. and yes ycc is a time to prove who is the best, my point was that its not just for that and it definitely wasnt started completely on the fact that people wanted to see who was the best. but lets not forget that no matter who wins ycc...it doesnt mean that that coast is better than the other...because if seattle wins, thats just seattle not the whole west coast, same with any other community. and lastly im sorry for the "balls" comments, its just really bothersome when i see little short jabs about how the east coast is ganna beat anybody on the west by a million and saying stuff that A. hasnt been proved or B. isnt true from anonymous. your not fooling anybody, your obviously from the east coast and you cant just own up to your words. and west coasters...back my up here and dont post anonymously.

Hi everybody!

I think all this is just nonsense! Dylan and Isaac, I like you both. But you're both silly! This is something to be settled on the field!

I will be doing my best to spike gratuitously and obnoxiously at YCC's, including calling timeouts after catch D's just to spike it on DiscNW kids, which I WILL be getting along with everyone else from DEVYL. Spirit is something I have abandoned along with worrying about my high school gpa and my high school girlfriends.

It's bullshit Oregon doesn't have a YCC team - I saw enough talent there in one day to warrant it over half the East coast (The southern half). But PA, NJ, MA will bring it. See everyone there :)

Luv ya!

Yeah Jackson. If you have no problem with spiking to get your team fired up, you shouldn't have any with a little pre tourney trash talk. If you think the west is better, boys, bring it at YCCs, because the east definitily will.
Jesus if you're going to rep us, at least spell "definitely" right.

Isaac
the east coast is way better than the west coast. if there was an east coast team vs a west coast team there is no doubt who would win. name five good players on the west....you cant! you guys are talking so much bull about spiking and stuff, well it doesnt really matter because nobody cares about you when your not very good. come see me at westerns kids, all show you the pain

Let's just say we aren't worried ok dude
I only know about half those kids, but I agree the west has bigger names at the moment, whatever that means. Still though, good easterns teams are deeper than good westerns teams, minus Hopkins. South Eugene brought, what, twelve kids to westerns? And made finals? That shit don't happen at Easterns.
doesnt that prove that they have really good players that can take them through seven games and still make the finals...?

I recognize the hopkins names. who are the first four? Anyway, there's no point in playing this back and forth game. East coasters know the names of these west coast allstars that get named time and time again. The same east coast names appear over and over as well. Rehder, Bechis, Freechild, Herscu, Montague, Kocher, Saul, Childs-Walker....Everyone knows that ALL these guys are ballers, saying it for the hundredth time won't change an ignorant anonymous poster's mind. I saw Hopkins, Pennsbury, and Amherst play this year and to tell you the truth I can't tell you who would win (although I am convinced that pennsbury is better than Amherst after winning the season series 2-1). The west and east coast argument always ends up going nowhere. My feelings are that the talent is basically equal in terms of individual players. While seattle is easily the top city in terms of youth talent (no place else even comes close), the talent is dispersed across so many teams that there are 3 or 4 mediocre teams rather than one power team when comparing to amherst or pennsbury. Sooo, I think amherst or pennsbury could beat any seattle team but a game against hopkins is too hard to predict.
