ben funks call-- ben funks two calls-- at the end of the finals were messed up... cheater
With dylan and the CHS girls I predicted eugene would win mixed, though MN was an interesting surprise.
Seattle boys winning again was surprising as I guessed Impulse would win but good for them, they really stepped it up for the win.

congrats to everyone
Also YCC was almost an exact repeat of paideia cup except impulse (NH) would've played buda (amherst) and seattle would've played devyl (columbia). And yes I know all the ycc teams draw from various schools but I thought I'd point this out cause it was sorta funny to me.
The boys final was an awesome game. Good game time adjustments by Seattle in the boys final. Their man defense couldn't stop Pitt early. They battled back by switching to zone, transition zone, and "junk-D" as much as they could. I was surprised how poorly Pitts zone offense played. They had many miscues, and looked confused in the zone O. Late in the game they were also more tired than Seattle. Awesome comback by Seattle boys who never gave up.
the majority of BUDA was not as much AHRS as people thought. I think there were only 2 kids from ARHS this year, but I agree with you and I see the similarities
3 kids from ARHS. Amos Adams, Spencer Diamond, Matt Jerry.
I'm kind of embarrassed that I have to defend myself on the foul call at the end of the open finals...
I called the offensive foul about 2 seconds before the throw...he threw it...it came back...the observer upheld my call.
I tapped the disc back in...and called a what I thought a legitimate stall...it was contested and this time without the observer it came back in...
Seattle scored.
Cheating?
Sorry, but I'm going to have to absolutely disagree.
Sure, I wish the last point could have been a lot cleaner with no stopages of play at all. (And maybe even with the score flipped in our direction when all was said and done...) But, sadly it was not the case.
Honestly, I believe both teams showed great poise throughout finals and there was a great show of respect between each and every one of us. A lot of hugs and emotions at the end.

Congratulations to Seattle and thanks again for another great year at YCCs.

I felt that the spirit of the tournament was, for the most part, exceptional. I got a good look at all of the teams except for Pittsburgh, and I felt that 5 of the 6 teams that we played had good to great respect for their opponents. After playing seattle, I was impressed to see that such a talented team with a number of players that I have heard less than reputable things about was so noble and spirited in their victories. Being a player on Minnesota, I felt that our spirit was sub-par, especially for a tournament such as this. Despite our occassional spike, I felt that our spirit was nowhere near as bad as that of DEVYL, who had aweful spirit. I really didn't mind them being giant dicks in our game against them as their cheers such as "hail satan" and the poor spirited antics of Coach Nunez were much more ammusing than offensive. I still laugh at that. While DEVYL was a very talented team, I can't respect them like I do Seattle for having a talented and enthusiastic team while maintaining good spirit.

devyl-devil-hail satan. lighten up and smile :-)
So, where's Jacob Janin going to college and is he playing Rhino?

As a person who saw the Devyl game against Minnesotta, and the Devyl game vs madison, I would have to say Devyl was not great as far as spirit goes, but it could be because of one or two players on that team. Number 0 was very off the wall, and his yelling and poor sportsmanship was not needed. As for Nunez having bad spirit, I did not see that he only spoke once in the minnesotta game clearing a rule and even said "I am just clearing a rule, not making any call" He even kept his mouth shut when one of the Minnesotta coaches started calling repulls loud from the sideline.

Against Madison, both teams had poor spirit, one madison kid spiked on a Devyl Kid, a Devyl player (number 0) got into a yelling match with Madison, but both the best player on Madison (Seth?), Nunez, and the dark haired lefty from Devyl would try to keep the peace between the two teams.
Nunez was a class act the whole way, and you could tell the difference between CHS kids and Pennsbury kids on that team.

Also, I would like clap it up for Seattle, and Cinn. For having the best overall spirit of the tournament. I was very impressed with their sidelines always being positive and being great people.

Denny Bechis put on an absolute show.
#4, 45, and 24? from Minnesota (the online roster has the wrong numbers), Seth from Madison, Ryan Holmes and Amos from BUDA, Denver had a lot of solid players but hard to pick a standout. On Pittsburgh, the players who stood out aside from Thorne, Connor and Funk were #0 and 8.
just to clerify

#4 - Robbie Shapiro, will be a senior at hopkins
#24 - Colin Camp, will be a senior at hopkins
#45 - Greg Arenson, will be a freshmen at Minnesota

To back Funk up, obviously as the observer called the foul it must have been legit. Its no fun to have something like that come up at the end of a game with everyone watching but I give him major props to be able stick with what was the right call because that is not easy.
As for Jacob Janin he is not playing for Rhino, many of the people on the team last year are no longer with the team.

Lastly I would just like to say thanks for an amazing YCC and hope to see many of you guys back next year.

Seattle Overcast
I agree with the foul call. Cooper did push off, and Ben called the foul at least 2 seconds before the throw was made, and stopped play. Very legit, observer agreed, nothing to it. The stall was iffy, but it was just contested and sent back, no big deal. It was a great game overall, and seattle showed a lot of respect when pittsburgh went up to get their medals by giving them a standing ovation. And as for devyl, buda played them in the last round of pool play and had an amazing game. It was heated because the score was close and there was some spiking, and a bit of arguing but nothing was really poor spirited. the devyl players were all about respecting their opponents and talking about how intense the game was, while still playing fairly. Good stuff

Anyone know about pictures from YCC and when and where they'll be up? A few of the ones on the slideshow saturday night were insane, and that catch by seattle at the very end of semi's against buda was the most ridiculous play I've ever seen. Hopefully someone got that on camera

Nick Kaczmarek (UPitt) and Ben Banyas (Edinboro U)
It wasn't nunez saying "we made them call timeout" or even the spiking by devyl the whole game that made me get mad during our game with them. It was when #0 caught a very questionable score and instead of seeing if he was in becasue it was really close, he immidiately spiked it and didn't listen to a thing our team said about best perspective or anything. It was way too close to being out for him to react like that and disregard any argument we had. I thought that was terrible spirit and when its that close you have to at least look at the line and ask for best perspective. It was an amazing catch but thats not an excuse to react like that.

Minnesota spiked way more then Devyl did. Infact first goal scored by minnesota was a big spike on the point. Was number 0 out of line and unspirited of course he was, but to say that a team is unspirited when you are doing the same exact thing is like driving your friend to rob a bank, holding the bag open for them and driving them away, then turning to them and saying you are such a jerk for robbing that bank.
I did not hear Nunez say anything about a timeout, if he did that was not very nice but also harmless. Number 0 should have been spoken to by the Devyl coaches and maybe even benched. I also was very impressed with the Dark haired lefty number 15 was a great player, so was number 60 both pennsbury players I believe.

Players of the tournament:
Red Haired kid with glass on budda
Jimmy from seattle, great bids and had the disc most of the time.
Amos and Spencer both Nasty Amherst is the team to beat.
Dark haired kid who was mostly a receiver for pitt I think his name was Conner.
Robbie from Minn killed it out there great player and solid handler.
Seth from Madison did everything for them.

I try to stay out of these thinngs as much as possible, but i am going to give my opinion this time. #00 on DEVYL Matt Bode may appear as an asshole and being really unspirited on the field, he is a nice kid off the field adn he knows that he is unspirited. That is just how he plays, he plays in the moment and sometimes he mihgt not realize all the stuff he does. A.J and i were talking to a bunch of the Pennsbury kids after our semifinals game with them and even though they seem like classless jerks on the field they do have class off the field. No offence to the people that are bitching about bode and the other DEVYL players being unspirited, when you develop a passion for this game you will become intense about it too, and you will believe that you are right in everything you do and every call you make. As for Nunez, he is a great guy and he has a lot of class. If he did say, "we made them call a timeout", it wasn't meant to put down the other team, it was meant to pump up his team. And as a coach, i would have said the exact same thing.
