Weekend Open Thread - 4/26-27 - State champs edition

There is a TON of ultimate going on this weekend. Mostly in the form of state championships, though it doesn't seem like any of the state championships have the standard 16 teams - California has the most with 14.

Regular tournaments

O'Hara invite ended up being a 4-team round robin, with YHB beating Cardinal O'Hara 13-10 in the game between the top two teams. LM came 1-2, and YHB lost to both O'Hara and LM.

Umm...the "team" that won Paideia cup will not be playing in a high school state championship any time soon barring some significant transfers.

Why doesn't Paideia attend Georgia states? Isn't that a prerequisite for going to Easterns? And just good for Georgia ultimate in general?

the team that won paidea was Seattle Academy, but they had some help especially from deep man, Matt Rehder, However, from what i have heard them losing was a fluke. However, apparently Lakeside has more raw talent and are scheduled to play the dynasty that is Northwest school. Don't count SAAS out for westerns though.

From what I hear Seattle Academy's lose was a fluke. They had trouble to do injuries i heard. Mike didn't play? someone told me jimmy was injured too. I also heard that they just played very lazy and didn't deserve to win. I still wouldn't count them out for Western's either though, but their seeding might be hurt.

Being on the team that beat SAAS, I will say they did not seem to be playing there best. They were missing mike and jimmy didn't seem like he was in great condition. My team was completely pumped up and we were playing some of our best ultimate, despite an injury to a deep, I'm sure if there were a rematch, or if Jimmy or Mike had been in, it would have been a completely different game.

the nobodys from nowhere beat saas.

I will say that SAAS did not play a lazy game. Michael was out, but Jimmy played and played pretty well. So no, it was not a fluke, no matter what you'd like to believe, and don't be surprised if Bellevue goes farther into this.

Who was the team that beat Seattle Academy? Bellevue? I heard King County Kamikaze. Not sure tho.

the reason paideia's (boys) varsity didn't participate in the state tournament is the school's administration limited the team to 5 tournaments this year. so, the choice was to play in two college events (DoG at emory universtiy and mudbowl), club terminus, and two high school tourneys - paideia cup and easterns.

the jv did participate and the girls' division had only a few teams so was only a one day event, so they were easily allowed to compete.
